Thames trains Scouts to get Dragon Boat badge

 
Thames Dragons has coached a group of Scouts from the 34th Woolwich Scout group to attain their Scout Dragon Boat badge.
 
 
The training took part at the Docklands sailing centre on a warm saturday morning in June. To attain the scout dragon boat badge the following requirements had to be met
 

  • Understand the safety rules, capsize drill and the water buddy system.
  • Know the procedures for loading, numbering off, stopping, bracing the boat, forward and backward paddling.
  • Complete a test on the instructions and commands used in the boat.
  • Complete a test on the history of dragon boat racing.
  • Carry out practice training sessions for a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Take part in a race over a distance of at least 250 metres.
